Dagger/Knife Self-Defense Workshop (Valemount, Nov 19)
November 19, 2017 @ 1:00 pm–3:00 pm PST$39
Learn practical dagger self-defense as it was known both in antiquity and today. Ancient soldiers and modern law enforcement alike rely on the same basic principles to defend themselves in close combat.
We’ll cover everything you need to defend yourself effectively, using the ancient Italian knight’s rondel dagger as our weapon of choice. Come prepared for fun and a great time of discovery. You will learn:
- the proper order of an attack;
- timing and footwork to prioritize safety
- the three most common lines of attack
- the three master positions that defend against these attacks
- once a defense has been made, we’ll counter attack with disarms, arm binds and full body control
The basis of our study will be Fiore dei Liberi’s 1409 combat manual The Flower of Battle, which demonstrates extensive knowledge and techniques for close combat and small weapons self-defense. Mixed in will be topics to address modern knives and modern combat/self-defense scenarios, how to avoid them, and what must be done if given no other option but to confront the attacker.
This workshop is open to all physical abilities. The pace will be steady and moderate, with breaks for water and questions. At the end we’ll stretch out for a few minutes before going on with the day. Modern activewear will be fine, a long sleeve shirt or hoodie can help prevent scratches or minor abrasions. Bring a water bottle, non-marking shoes. Children under 18 years of age must bring a waiver signed by their parents or guardian.
Register today and we’ll see you there!
